EBAY SCAM - OBINNA GERRAD

Someone tried to scam me on ebay today. I post the whole incidence here, hopefully you will learn something from this. The lesson is to always check the sender's email address and be cautious when someone is willing to pay a large amount of money. If something is too good to be true, it can not be true.

I was trying to sell an used iPhone in the ebay auction. The normal market price for this phone should be around $600. The buyer pushed the price to $3660 in the auction and won it. He then sent multiple fake Paypal emails from transactionupdate@europe.com to claim that $3660 has been transferred to my account, that my Paypal account was closed because I did not ship the item on time. In his fake Paypal email, he instructed me to send the iPhone to Nigeria, at the address given above. His fake Paypal and ebay emails look exactly like the real ones. He said that he lives in US and wanted to send the phone to family in Nigeria; however, his IP address (from the emails) is in Nigeria. Later when I looked at my bank statement, I knew that no money was transferred to my account and the emails I got were not from Paypal or Ebay, but from other addresses.

By the way, I have the address of this Internet criminal, in case you have encountered him, you can file a complaint here (like I did) http://www.ic3.gov/complaint/default.aspx (Internet Crime Complaint Center - FBI)
